Data Catalog

View EGP Data Catalog

Currently, the EGP data sources are available with NIFC's ArcGIS Online Organization (AGOL). To access this data catalog you must have an account and log into the NIFC's AGOL.

This dataset is published and maintained through the Wildland Fire Enterprise Geospatial Portal (EGP), a centralized GIS platform to support operational fire management, situational awareness, and interagency coordination. It provides authoritative spatial and incident data for wildland fires nationwide.

Key Features:

  • Incident-Level Data: Fire name, fire code (IRWIN ID), discovery and containment dates, fire size (acres), cause, current status, and responsible unit.
  • Authoritative Geometry: Fire perimeters (daily updates), point of origin, fire progression lines, and management action points. Timeframe: Historical incidents dating back to 2000, with near real-time updates during fire season.
  • Operational Layers: Interoperable with EGP map services, including MODIS/VIIRS hotspots, smoke plumes, satellite detection grids, and fire suppression resources.

Data Sources:

Interagency data flows through IRWIN (Integrated Reporting of Wildland-Fire Information), SIT-209 reports, GACCs, and incident teams, harmonized in the EGP ecosystem.

Access via EGP:

  • ArcGIS Portal: https://egp-nifc.hub.arcgis.com/
  • Services: Hosted Feature Services, Map Services (WMS), REST endpoints
  • Download Formats: GeoDatabase (GDB), Shapefile, CSV
  • Tools: Custom web apps, map viewers, dashboards, and situational awareness tools
  • Security: Some layers require login (e.g., for interagency users); public data is also available

Use Cases:

  • Operational planning during active incidents
  • Fire behavior modeling and analytics
  • Strategic resource placement and aviation coordination
  • Post-fire assessments and land management planning

Update Frequency:

Operational Season: Updated daily or sub-daily Off-Season: Weekly or as-needed

Licensing & Sharing:

Primarily public domain under U.S. Government licensing. Some datasets may have access controls based on sensitivity or operational use.
